He was predeceased by: his parents, Oscar Smedley and Tullurian Smedley; and his siblings, Oscar Jr., Billy, Walter, James Ralph, Bob, Frank and Alma (Huddy).

He is survived by: his sons, Ralph Smedley of Belton and Matthew Smedley of Leander. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
