He was predeceased by: his parents, John A. Matthews, Sr. and Artiles Matthews (Bailey). He is survived by: his siblings, Charlies A. Bailey of Gilbert, AZ, John A. Matthews, Jr. of Arizona and Sheila L. Berry (Matthews) of Belton. He is also survived by one niece and seven nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army at P.O. Box 11005 Birmingham, AL 35202.
