He is survived by: his wife Joycelyn Thornton; his children, Lesa Marie Smith Allen (Beaumont), Nanette Battles Rucker (Houston), Mona Chaney (Baton Rouge), Ireese'Battles Gregory Beaumont (Tim) and Kevin Wayne Battles (Beaumont); and his siblings, Rosemary Lewis, Irene Bates, Mary Edwards, Emily Mott, Katherine Battles, Matthew Battles Sr. (Carol), Reverend Philip Battles, Sr. (Sandra) and Haassan Shaheed (Leroy).
Viewing was held on Friday, November 8th 2024 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. A wake was held on Friday, November 8th 2024 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Mercy Funeral System Inc (1395 Gladys St, Beaumont, TX 77701). Visitation was held on Saturday, November 9th 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the same location. A funeral service was held on Saturday, November 9th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Ebenezer Baptist Church (575 College St, Beaumont, TX 77701).
