He was predeceased by: his wife Margaret Nell Shepherd; his parents, Willie Lloyd and Bernice Lee; and his sister Betty Cummings. He is survived by: his sister Jerry Mae (The Dawgs); his children, Lisa Barlow (Robert), Glenn Shepherd and Ivy Nell Hooten (Michael); his siblings, Joseph Shepherd, Sandra Cochran and Michae Davis; his grandchildren, Dixie Lee Barlow, Cassie Marie Thorp (Jeremy) and Walter Ivy Barlow; and his great grandchildren, Zander, Sadie, Joseph and Daniel.
