He was predeceased by: his parents, James Leslie and Eloise Matthews; his daughter Deborah Matthews; and his brother Jerry Bob Matthews. He is survived by: his wife Mary Ann Matthews; his daughter Christi Lynn Day (Russell) of Pearland; his siblings, Eloise Matthews Bayless (Steve) and Don Matthews (Gladys); and his grandchildren, Katelyn Taylor, Courtney Dean and Dylan Michael Day. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Holy Cross School Foundation or the charity of their choice.
