Charles R. Greenway Obituary

Charles Greenway's remarkable life began on September 20, 1927 in Haskell, Texas and was the first of two children born to Raymond and Lucille Greenway. Charles graduated from Haskell High School in 1946. He married his loving wife, Addie Frances Key on July 3, 1952 and they spent 66 wonderful years together raising children and contributing to the community.

Charles was very involved with his dozer business, Greenway Conservation Contractors, as well as with the City of Baird and later retired from Bandag. He was also very involved in many community organizations including coaching little league, coaching youth in 4-H shooting sports, building a shooting facility between Baird and Clyde to provide a safe environment for area youth to train and compete. He supported the area youth in 4H and FFA. Charles and Frances were recognized by the Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas with the Community Builders Award in 2014 (the highest award granted to a non-Mason) for their many years of contributions, mentoring and giving to the youth organizations of Callahan County.

Our spirited and spunky dad, papa, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, has gone home to be with the Lord with a restored body. We celebrate his life and legacy. Charles was known for being spunky, hardworking and opinionated. Charles was generous with his time and sharing knowledge as one of the best competitive shooters in black powder. He has set records and won many shooting competitions throughout his life. Charles' spirit will live on in all of those who knew him.

Charles is survived by his sons Fred Greenway and wife Jan, Rich Greenway and wife Lynn, daughters, Cheryl Lee and husband Bob, and Cindy Cummings and husband Terry. Other survivors are 12 grandchildren; Gene Fortune, Crystal Webb, Jana Greenway, Brittany Orosco, Jeff Greenway, Christopher Greenway, Kayla Greenway, Erica Hechtkopf, Callan Jenkins, Scott Cummings, Jay Cummings and Sean Cummings and numerous great-grandchildren, loving Sister, Sue Andress and husband Boyd, their daughters Dyanna Andress, Sheri McCrory, and Kristin Booth and their children that he regarded as his own grandchildren as well as sisters-in-law Joann Farr, Beth Larned and brother-in-law Billy Ray Key.

He was preceded in death by his wife and the love of his life, Frances Key Greenway, as well as his parents and great-grandson, Trenton Fortune.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Baird Meals on Wheels, 401 Chestnut, Baird, 79504, Callahan County 4H Shooting Sports, 1257 FM 2047, Baird, Texas 79504 or your favorite charity.
