Beverly Reeves Obituary
Beverly Reeves passed quietly from this life on Wednesday December 11, 2024, in an Abilene hospital, after a short illness. She was born in Abilene, Texas in 1939 to Eddie and Ovena [Blalock] Konczak. Both the Konczak and Blalock families were pioneer residents of Clyde and Callahan County.
Beverly grew up in the Clyde area, attending and graduating from the Clyde School System. She operated EBCO Embroidery on Butternut in Abilene, serving schools and businesses with letter jackets and personalized items for several years before moving to Austin to finish her degree at the University of Texas. Obtaining her teaching credentials she taught for many years in the Pasadena, Texas school system specializing in the visually and hearing impaired students. Upon retiring she and her husband, Joe Reeves, moved back to Clyde, building a home behind her parents. Bev and Joe were both master gardeners and operated Pecan Grove Herbs, where they taught classes in growing and using herbs and spices. Both were involved in classic cars and were members of the local Keepers Car Club. Beverly was especially fond of red corvettes old enough to have chrome bumpers. She restored and drove several during her time in Austin and Houston and has the speeding tickets to prove it. Historical reenacting of the Indian War period brought out her teaching passion. Many folks may remember her presenting frontier living skills at area frontier forts during visitor days and events. At her death, Beverly was serving on the Board of Directors of the Fort Chadbourne Foundation which operates the Fort Chadbourne Historic Site.
Beverly also enjoyed sewing, crazy quilting and embroidery. Many of her friends will remember her by her hand made fabric greeting cards. Others will remember her for the many years of volunteering at the Clyde Public Library.
A private memorial service will be conducted at a later date. Perhaps in the Spring, when her beloved wildflowers are in full bloom.
Her husband Joe preceded her in death. Survivors include a brother, Mike Konczak of Baird, a niece, T. J.Dayberry of Clyde, a nephew, Michael Konczak of Baird and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
The family suggests donations to Hendrick Hospice Care, PO Box 1922, Abilene, Texas 79601, Fort Chadbourne Foundation, 651 Ft Chadbourne Dr, Bronte, Texas 76933 or Clyde Public Library, 125 Oak, Clyde, Texas 79510, in lieu of flowers.
