He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph "Skeet" Weldon Smotherman and Jasmine Smotherman (Holmes); and his son-in-law Mike Griffin. He is survived by: his wife Joy Ann; his daughters, Janet Epperson (Larry) and Deborah Griffin; his grandchildren, Philip Griffin (Mandi), Daphne Pawl Diab and Derek Epperson; his great grandchildren, Ivie Griffin, Shamus Griffin and Charlotte Diab; and his sister Joyce Smotherman Lamb (Charles).
