He was predeceased by: his parents, R. T. Hammons and Margaret Hammons; and his siblings, Hubert Hammons, William Terrell "Mutt" Hammond, Carolyn Lawrence and Barbara Jean Prince.
He is survived by: his wife Linda Hammonds; his children, Nikki Brown (Greg) of Atlanta, Derek Hammonds (Rae) of Atlanta and Bo Hammonds (Kim) of Atlanta; his siblings, Paul Hammons (Sandra) of Hooks Texas and Judy May (Gawain) of Bossier City; and his grandchildren, Bj Hammonds, Andrew Hammonds, Maia Brown, Caleb Dowda, Blaine Hammonds, Noah Dowda, Eli Brown and Alex Hammonds. He is also survived by friends, and relatives.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the VA, and the Alzheimers Foundation.
