Debora Tumlinson wrote a sympathy message

“Above all else, Ted loved his family and friends. He cared for the needs of others, and he listened when you needed a ear. Ted was above all else, a kind, gentle, Christian man, who practiced his religion, in and out of the church, and took the lessons of the bible he was taught, too heart and practiced them in his life. He will be truly and sorrowfully missed.”

“When Ted played for the Houston Oilers, I was the President of the newly formed Clear Creek Association for Retarded Citizens. We held our first Special Olympics Competition Events in the Clear Lake Area. We asked the Houston Oilers to send a player to encourage our special athletes. They sent Ted. He was such a fine person and all of us were appreciative and thankful for his participation. The time would have been in the late 1970's. It appears that he was raised in an admirable manner.”
