He was predeceased by: his parents, Judy Sartor Pursley and Billy Joe Smith; his brother Samuel Douglas Pursley; his son Micah Howell; and his close friend Richard Allen.

He is survived by: his daughter-in-law Philana Schuetz; his grandchildren, Slevin Micah Howell and Athena Jade Howell; his cousins, Dana Dupree and David Dupree; his uncle Robert "Butch" Dudley; and his aunt Charlotte Dudley. He is also survived by other cousins, family and friends.
