He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Cothren and Nancy Cothren; his brothers, Walter Wayne and Charles Wesley (Eloise); his grandson Vernice "Bubba" Kirkland; and his great grandchild Ehlana Danae Jackson.

He is survived by: his sons, David Cothren (Jean), Sammy Cothren (Ember) and Paul Cothren (Loretta); his sister Doris Marie Knight; his grandchildren, Christy Cothren Myers (Jason), Joanne Cothren Gibson (Jonathan), Cindy Jackson, Jacki Hammontree, Daniel Cothren and Jaime Kirkland; his great grandchildren, Haleigh Byrd, Conley Hammontree, Reid Hammontree, Nate, Annelise Gibson, Ryan, Andrew Myers, MacKenzie, Charleigh Cothren, Blake and Erica Cruson; his great great grandchildren, Keaton, Kreed and Channing Cruson; and his friends, Virginia Steger and Charles "Cooter" Wall.
