He was predeceased by: his wife Ethel James (Hall); his parents, Coy James Sr. and Jessie B James (Simmons); his siblings, Alfred James, Lessie B James, Coy James Jr., Nellie V James and Lealer James; and his daughter Ivery Jewel James.

He is survived by: his children, Burnis James (Deborah) of Atlanta, TX, Michael Martin Sr. (LaShonda) of Atlanta, TX, Lamar Davis (Beverly) of Dallas, TX, Jermaine Streets of Domino, TX, Eddie Hall (LaToya) of Mt Pleasant, TX, Brenda (Tommie Greene) of Mesquite, TX, Linda Williams of Atlanta, TX, Glenda Martin of Atlanta, TX and Dorothy Edmond of Linden, TX; his siblings, Elmer James of Atlanta, TX, Lillie Parker of Texarkana, TX, Vealer Wright of Omaha, NE and Glenda Smith of Shiloh, TX; and his caregiver Tricia Collins. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, numerous friends and other relatives.
