He was predeceased by: his parents, Dessie Bell and Neal S. Velvin; his son William Ernest Velvin; and his sister LaMartha Wallace. He is survived by: his friend Carlos; his close friend Max; his wife Nell Velvin; his son Neal T. Velvin; his grandchildren, Will C. Velvin and Brana Velvin Rope (Adam Rope); and his great grandchildren, Curry Rope and Porter Rope.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to the Disciples Clinic of Athens and/or the East Texas Arboretum & Botanical Society.
