He was predeceased by: his son Jorge Luis Zárate, Jr.; his parents, María Becerra Zárate and Manuel Zárate; and his siblings, Alejandro Zárate, Gilberto Zárate, Ernesto Zárate and Juana Garza.
He is survived by: his children, Manuel Arnulfo Zárate, Maria Guadalupe Ochoa (Marco), Izelda Ann Zárate and Delaila Rose Zárate (Rolando); and his siblings, Reynaldo B. Zárate, Manuel Zárate, Jr., Arturo B. Zárate, Bertha Farias, Maria Elena Garza and Ana María Ruiz. He is also survived by six grandsons and one granddaughter.
