He was predeceased by: his parents, Ivan Patterson and Pauline Caldwell Patterson; his son Richard Todd Patterson; and his sister Patricia Holmes. He is survived by: his wife Linda Patterson of Andrews; his children, Terry Patterson (Michele Brown), Kimberly Patterson of Andrews, Kevin Patterson (Honey) of Andrews and Kip Patterson (Dianna) of San Antonio; and his sister Elaine Patterson of Galveston. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.
