She was predeceased by: her parents, David Abernathy and Pauline Abernathy; her son Clayton Abshier; and her brothers, David "Bubba" Abernathy and Dale Abernathy.

She is survived by: her daughters, Tammy Coots (Tommy), Tinna Blacksher (Kirk), Marilyn Abshier (Jake Rodgers) and Kellie Sole (Brandon); her grandchildren, T. J. Coots (Megan), Ashley Coots, Natasha Blacksher, Hailey Sole, Noah Sole, Lena Abshier and Colton Abshier; her siblings, James Abernathy (Sandy) and Alice Dawson; and her sisters-in-law, Annette Abernathy and Jackie Abernathy. She is also survived by 8 Great-grandchildren.

“Laura and I had known each other since 1989 when we worked together. She was a sweet and happy woman who had lived through some tough times. A few years later we worked together again and we took up where we left off. She loved to laugh. She loved her kids and grandkids to the moon and back. We didn't stay in touch so much after we retired. We would occasionaly talk through e-mails and then Facebook. May God bless her family and friends. She was a special lady.”
