He was predeceased by: his parents, Jonathan Lee Shaffer and Marjorie Jean Lane Shaffer; and his sister Joyce Lynn Haymes. He is survived by: his wife Susan Griffin; his children, Debi Quiroga (Tommy) of Euless, Texas, Wade Shaffer (Monica) of Amarillo and Randy Shaffer (Jackie) of Southlake, Texas; his former wife Kay Shaffer of Fort Worth; his children, Courtney Griffin (Shelly) of Allen, Texas and Keith Griffin of Allen, Texas; his siblings, Steve Shaffer (Linda) of Springfield, Missouri and Kathy Brown (Jay) of Greenfield, Missouri; his grandchildren, Andrew Shaffer, Seth Shaffer Sara (Rose), Hannah Shaffer (Dana) and Maddie Quiroga; and his close friend Jack Pippin (Alice) of Joplin. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Amarillo Veteran's Hospital and/or to Accent Hospice Care.
