It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Derek Justin Arellano of Amarillo, Texas, who passed away on January 15, 2025, at the age of 15, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his great-grandparents, Manuel Carrasco-Holguin and Amparo Villa Viezcas; and his great-aunt Carmella Rhodes. He is survived by: his caregivers, Stephani Hernandez, Sara Tino, Frank Graham, Bethany Jenkins and Maria Olvera; his mother Lalissa Arellano (Ryan Cooper); his siblings, Emerie and Anthony Cooper; his cousin Luis "Bubba" Carrasco; and his pets, Coco, Debo, Mary Carrasco, Luis Carrasco, Maricela "Flaca" Arellano and Luis Carrasco Jr..
Visitation was held on Thursday, January 23rd 2025 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home (2800 Paramount Blvd, Amarillo, TX 79109). A funeral service was held on Friday, January 24th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel (2800 Paramount Blvd, Amarillo, TX 79109).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House.
