He was predeceased by: his parents, Nelson Sanders and Genia Sanders; his siblings, Nelda Daughtie, Geneva Walling and Charles Ray Sanders; and his grandson Tyler Sanders.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Sanders; his sons, David Sanders (Ginger) and Joe Don Sanders (Nancy); his sisters, Norma Ault, Joyce Hollis and Charlotte Stewart; and his grandchildren, Corey Sanders, Kylee Crawford, Kyndel Hays and Dylan Sanders.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Durwood's honor to Alvin Missionary Baptist Church.
