He is survived by: his close friend Adrianna Benavidez; his mother Dolores Dunn; his siblings, Diana Muggill and Manuel Guajardo; his children, Vanessa, Richard (Richie), Eric, James Guajardo and Willie Diaz; and the mothers of children, Grace Guajardo and Gloria Samora Guajardo. He is also survived by four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Rico was honored and inducted into the Tejano Hall of Fame for his contribution to the Tejano music industry.
