Martha Brown Obituary

Martha Brown of Abilene passed away Friday, June 28, 2024, at the age of 93.

She was born December 20, 1930 in the Baird area to Steward and Bertha Reid Bentley. Martha attended school in Scranton and Putnam, where she was captain of her basketball team. She later received her GED. Martha married Joy Brown November 28, 1948 at Cottonwood Church of Christ. They lived in Jal, New Mexico where she was head cook and dietitian for the Jal Schools. She also played in a women's softball league in the Jal area. Other things Martha enjoyed were reading romance novels, painting and being with family.

Martha is preceded in death by her parents Steward and Bertha Bentley; husband Joy Brown; daughter Kay Lehman, and all her siblings.

She is survived by sons Don Brown of Austin and Gary Brown of Abilene; daughters Ann St. Clair of Abilene and Sharon Burress of Abilene along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, July 5, 2024, at Parker-Jacobs Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Clyde Church of Christ with David Peterson officiating. Burial will follow at Admiral Cemetery.

The family requests donations be made to Saint Judes Hospital for children.
