With heavy hearts, we announce the death of James Roberts Oates of Abilene, Texas, born in Groom, Texas, who passed away on February 11, 2024 at the age of 87. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Tom Oates and Nydia Oates; his spouse Jackie Jean Hunt; his siblings, Linda Marilyn Oates and Tommy Oates; and his son Monty.
He is survived by: his children, Mark Oates (Jeanie) of Edmond, OK and Jamie Shannon (Patrick) of San Angelo, TX; his granddaughters, Haley Jo Oates (Bryan), Rose, Jacqueline and Alexandra Oates; his children, Addison and Emma Shannon; his great grandchildren, Bronson Cash, Tinley Belle and Stratton Holt Tolliver; and his nieces and nephews, Roy Oates (Martie), Derethia Spradlin (Tracy) and Rex Oates.
