Helen Fay Moore Obituary

Helen Fay Bates Moore of Abilene passed away Monday, August 12, 2024 at the age of 70.

Helen was born April 6, 1954, in Wallace, Idaho. Helen was later adopted by Ralph and Hazel Bates, and was raised in and around northwestern Arkansas and west Texas. Helen graduated with her LVN license from Cisco Junior College, and then married her high school sweetheart, Michael Moore. Helen later received a bachelors of science in nursing from Abilene Christian University and a masters of nursing education from Walden University. Helen worked for her entire career as a nurse, spending time in the operating room, as well as a wound and ostomy specialist in Texas and Tennessee, before becoming a nursing instructor at McLennan Community College. Helen enjoyed the education side of patient care.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Hazel Bates; her husband of almost 50 years, Michael; and their youngest daughter, Mary-Nancy Smith. Helen leaves behind a daughter, Lori Smith and her husband Michael of Kaysville, Utah; a son, Waylon Lesly and his wife Robin, of Baytown, Texas, and her daughter, Jenni Langston, of Abilene, Texas. She leaves behind beloved grandchildren, a dearly loved son-in-law, a host of friends and family, and hundreds of former patients and students.

Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 AM Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Kimbrough-Jacobs Funeral Home, 300 W 9th Street in Cisco. Services will follow at 10:30 AM in the Kimbrough-Jacobs Chapel. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
