He was predeceased by: his parents, Elbert Rains and Bertha Rains; his wife Pauline Caswell; his siblings, Jerry Don Rains, Loretta and Sandra Rains; and his grandson Landon Reilly Rains.
He is survived by: his children, Debra Lynn Wessel (Rick) of Westlake, TX, Michael Glen Rains (Regina) of Abilene, David Keith Rains (Garry Pierce) of Abilene and Steven Paul Rains (John Boyd) of Plano; his grandchildren, Jennifer, Travis Haskin of Westlake, Jared, Erin Wessel of Trophy City, Talia Rains of Lubbock, Lyra, Andrew Halloway of Azle, Ryland Rains of Abilene, Maya and Emma Rains of Plano; his great grandchildren, Holden, Harper Haskin of Westlake, Rhett and Reagan Wessel of Trophy City; his brother Lyndell Rains (Ina) of Abilene; and his sisters-in-law, Deanna Slater of Graham and Linda Caswell of Lufkin. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
