He was predeceased by: his parents, Claude Layne and Gladys "Sis" Layne; and his siblings, Jackie Layne, Jerry Layne, Bonnie Bill, Judy and Sue.

He is survived by: his wife Margie Callahan Layne; his son Jason Layne (Ashley) of Whitwell; his siblings, Jim Bob, Lisa Layne, Big Boy Griffith, Kay Kilgore, Doris Nunley, Emma Shadrick, Barb and Eddie Nunley; and his grandchildren, Landen Layne and Asher Layne.
