He was predeceased by: his sister Carol Blalock; and his grandparents, Roy, Jean Tatum, Frank and Mary Duffey.

He is survived by: his wife Cindy Davis of Whitwell; his parents, Mary Sharon Holland of Whitwell and James Tatum, Sr. of Chattanooga; his sons, James L. Tatum, III and Chris Tatum of Georgia; his sister Renda Eakin (Bruce); and his grandchild Layla Holland.
