He was predeceased by: his former wife Luedell Hammers; his daughter Linda Carol Hammers Carver; his parents, Lenard Ambro Hammers and Irma Pyles Hammers; and his sister Bessie Willoughby.

He is survived by: his wife Marilyn Cossar Phillips Hammers of Whiteville, TN; his children, Kathy Hunt (Paul) of Medon, TN, Melissa Dowdy (Jason) of Somerville, TN and Joey Phillips (Debra) of Whiteville, TN.; his grandchildren, Phillip Jason Hunt, Heather Carver, Jessica Carver and Charles Phillips; and his niece Brenda Elder. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren.
