He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas A. Smith and Bettie Mae Anderson Smith; his siblings, Iris Horton and Lindsay "Clyde" Smith; his siblings-in-law, Joseph Horton, Reford Stanley, William Caffacos and Josie Smith; and the mother of his children Nell Smith Adams.
He is survived by: his close friend Shirley "Gramby" Brooks; his children, Betty "Libby" Gill (Jim Anderson), Carolyn Lazenby (Bob), Vance D. Smith, Jr. (Carrie Halcomb) and Donna Mensh (Spencer); his siblings, Buford Smith (Andrea), Cecil "Zeke" Smith (late Josie), Hazel Burkhart (Barney), Mildred Caffacos (late William) and Winford Smith (Cenna); his sister-in-law Jo Smith (late Clyde); his grandchildren, Vance "David" Smith, III (Stephanie), Alec Lazenby, Erica Gossett (Corey), Daren Miller, Katie Lazenby, Chris Smith, Kaelynn Waggoner (Daniel), Gage Cheeves (Alivia), Heather Hightower (Eric), Austin Lazenby, Morgan Malugin, Nic and Tim Malugin; and his great grandchildren, Oliver, Ethan, Neeson, Ezra, Aylo, Walker and Paxton. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
