He was predeceased by: his father Tilmon W. Slone; his wife Ethel Mitchner Slone; and his brother Jerry Hesse. He is survived by: his children, Donna Creasy and Jim Slone II (Toni); and his grandchildren, Brandi Kinslow (Max), Heather Garcia (Jonathan), Kristi Shelton (Zach), Wesley Slone and Sheridan Gardner (Corey). He is also survived by five great-grandchildren.
