He was predeceased by: his parents, Granville Ashley Ellis and Hallie B. McGowan Ellis; his wife Velma Irene Beerman Ellis; his son Errol Ellis; and his brother Granville Ellis.
He is survived by: his daughters, Patricia "Tricia" Richardson (Jimmy), Cynthia "Cindy" Mealer (David) and Alicia Covington (Randall); and his brother Aubrey Ellis (Beulah). He is also survived by nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
