He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl C. Garland and Thelma Wilson Garland; and his sister Paula K. Edwards. He is survived by: his wife Ghuangping Hu Garland; his children, David Earl Garland, Jr. (Amber) of Erwin, Austin Garland of Erwin, Brian Garland of Erwin, Donna Bender (Mark) of Greeneville and Debra Cox (Sean) of Greeneville; and his niece Allena Stout. He is also survived by six grandchildren.
