He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Gernat and Louise Cigmond Gernat; his sister Connie Benda; and his former wife Dorothy Gernat. He is survived by: his wife Sherry Sherrill Gernat; his children, Linda Gernat and John Gernat; his stepson Ernie Sherrill (Stacey); his grandchildren, Saralynn Hirschi, Andrew Saalman, Bethany Sherrill, Earl Sherrill and Riley Belle Sherrill; his great grandchildren, Myles Saalman and Mia Boettcher; and his caregiver Faith (Luke).
