He was predeceased by: his parents, John Richard and Minnie Florence Slate Lightner; and his sister Virginia Diane Lightner. He is survived by: his wife Sherri Montgomery Lightner of Tullahoma; his children, Richard Brian Lightner (Jamie) of Tullahoma, Stephen Cathey (Brittney) of Unionville, Philip Cathey of Tullahoma, Trena West (Johnny) of Hillsboro and Atoma Cude (Harrel) of Shelbyville; and his brother Zack Lightner (Brenda) of West Virginia. He is also survived by 27 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home to help the family with the funeral expense.
