He was predeceased by: his parents, William Charlie Grimes, Sr. and Frances Annie Denton; and his brother Billy Grimes. He is survived by: his daughters, Sue Ann Chessor (Ronnie) of Hornbeak and Crystal Grimes of Hornbeak; his grandchildren, Elizabeth Cook, Joe Cunningham, Steven Collins, Joshua Schroeder and Kent David Schroeder II; and his brothers, Bobby Grimes and Hillard Charles Grimes. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren.
