He was predeceased by: his parents, Fleetwood B. Sr. Scates and Alma Louise Harrington Scates; and his brother Fleetwood B. Scates, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Mary Edna McCaig Scates; his daughters, Teressia Tidwell (Doug) and Melanie Herndon (TJ); his siblings, Linda Faulkner and Lester Scates; his grandchildren, David Hensley (Krista), Melanie Tidwell King (Michael), Brooke Gullett (Cody), Kilee Tidwell and Hunter "Drake" Herndon; and his great grandchildren, Ridgelynn Hensley, Hayden Wingo, Daniel King, Eli Gullett and Maycee Gullett. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and cousins.
