He was predeceased by: his parents, Demetria Jarnigin and Obbie Dedman; his wife Cindy Hankins Sawyers; and his sister Darlene Denton (Pennie). He is survived by: his sons, Gregory Sawyers of Virginia, Kevin Sawyers of Tennessee and Keith Sawyers of Missouri; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn Keene, Matthew Sawyers, Kirsten Sawyers and Chazz Sawyers; and his great grandchildren, Colton Greenleaf and Brielle Keene.
