He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Layne and Willie Layne; his wife Susie Layne; his children, Mitzi Layne and John Layne, Jr.; and his siblings, Robert Layne, Jr., Susie Peck and Sally Rollins.

He is survived by: his daughters, Vickie Rollins (Rickey) and Shannon Arthur (Bud); his daughter-in-law Darlene Layne; and his grandchildren, Heather, Ashley, Samantha, Robert, Zachary and Owen. He is also survived by eight great grandchildren.
