He was predeceased by: his parent Henry Nunley; his wife Mae Dean Nunley; his son Jeffery Nunley; his sister Elsie Childers; and his grandson Dustin Nunley.

He is survived by: his parent Clara Louise Nunley; his wife Sue Nunley; his children, Howard L. Nunley, Mike Green (Vicky), Connie Overturf (Kelly), Theresa "Happy" Copeland (Jimmy) and Donna Caldwell (Ricky); and his sister Lillie Mae Caldwell. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
