He was predeceased by: his parents, Marvin Smartt and Beccie Parsons Smartt; his siblings, Jack Smartt, Leroy Smartt, Marvin Smartt, Vernon Smartt, Susie Layne, Juanita Ashley and Hassie Meeks; and his stepdaughter Kathy Frederick.
He is survived by: his wife Janice Smartt; his stepchildren, Bobby Smartt, Fonda Geary, Renee Reid and Michael Smartt; and his great grandchild Javon Liles. He is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
