He is survived by: his wife Maria Almeida Edwards; his children, Rebecca Smith (Tim), Richard C. Edwards (Amber Kostelansky) and Robert Paul Edwards; his stepchildren, Carlos Henriques and Rui Daniel Henriques; his sisters, Barbara Sommer and Janet Wenzell (Jim); and his granddaughter Elizabeth Edwards.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
