Alan Charles Seaman Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Alan Seaman (Telford, Tennessee), who passed away on June 27, 2022, at the age of 87. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Alan Charles Seaman to pay them a last tribute.
Born in Catskill, NY, he was the youngest of four children. Always curious, he loved a challenge. In middle school he took a “gap” year to sail around the world on the family schooner “The Foam.” In high school he trained in Lake Placid to be an Olympic ski jumper (until he hurt his back). He also loved to let people know what he was thinking, as anyone who knew him can attest to.
He joined the Army in 1959 and became a conscientious objector. He would fire a gun just not at people, or any living creatures for that matter. Good thing he is crazy smart and an electronics specialist. He was regularly flown home from Germany to fire the Red Stone rockets. So many careers – he was driving a Mac Tool truck when he met my mom. He did marine salvage and repair, he was a metal fabricator, inventor, always going, doing, thinking. He was self-employed and prosperous until the very end. As a Mason and a Shriner, he was an award-winning clown who loved parades and the Shrine Circus. He also visited the Shrine Hospitals. Hard to say he enjoyed that but he knew he made a difference.
He is survived by Janet, his wife of 56 years, three daughters and 3 grandchildren. His goal was to make sure his children knew he loved them. Something he said his dad never said to him. He succeeded. Diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) in 2015, he outlived the 2-5 year prognosis by several years. He has always been an overachiever so not surprised there. MDS and lymphoma finally got him in the end though. Nobody can deny he lived a long, fruitful, and amazing life.
To further medical research on myelodysplastic syndrome, he has donated his body to the Quillen College of Medicine. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the MDS Foundation https://www.mds-foundation.org
