He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Lamar Gerrells and Bessie Lou Pilgrim; his brothers, Billy Gerrells, Ray Gerrells and Dan Gerrells; and his son Travis Chumley.

He is survived by: his wife Cindy Chumley Gerrells; his children, Alicia Hamilton, James Gerrells, Lamar Gerrells and Nathan Gerrells; his mother-in-law Joyce Chumley; his sister-in-law Sandra Chumley; and his siblings, Molly Johnson, Sara Payne, Lillie Ash and Richard Gerrells. He is also survived by Six Grandsons, 3 Granddaughters and 3 great Grandchildren.
