He was predeceased by: his wife Lucile Nichols; his son James Richard Nichols; his parents, James Nichols and Beatrice Nichols; his daughter-in-law Anita Nichols; and his grandson Robert Mowery.
He is survived by: his daughter Frances Mowery of Clinton; his children-in-law, Erb Mowery of Clinton and Bobby Nichols of Knoxville; and also, Ted Nichols and Ruth Nichols of Sweetwater. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
