He was predeceased by: his parents, Lilian Scott Justice and John F. Powell Sr.; his stepmother Mignon Powell; his brother Donnie Ray Powell; and his nephew Joshua Allen Walker.

He is survived by: his siblings, Bobby Joe Powell, Mary Jane Walker, Frances Pepper and Cathy Lynn. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
