He was predeceased by: his mother Pauline Elizabeth; his brother Charles A. Vance (Jean); and his siblings-in-law, Glenn Shoup, O. K. "Buddy" Thigpen (Barbara) and Mary Jane Thigpen.

He is survived by: his wife Helen Elizabeth Vance; his sister Anna Lou Shoup; and his siblings-in-law, Cecil and Sue Thigpen. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
