He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Gaut and Lou Gaut of Strawberry Plains. He is survived by: his wife Ella Denney Gaut; his children, Teresa "Tere" Atwater and Charlie Gaut; his daughter-in-law Martha Gaut; and his grandchildren, Michael Denney Gaut and Emily Irene Gamblin (Locke Ray Gamblin).

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to First Baptist Church Knoxville, Youth Department, 510 West Main Street, 37902.
