He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Eral Carpenter and Carolyn Carpenter; his wife Diana Reid Carpenter; his son Patrick Carpenter; his brother Larry Carpenter; his sister-in-law Donna Carpenter; his sister Sharon Turner; his nephew Collin Carpenter; and his niece Jordan Carpenter.

While attending Mississippi State University, he was an active member of the Wesley Foundation.
