He was predeceased by: his parents, Ben Mathews and Barbara Pruitt Mathews Cowherd; his brother Jeff Mathews; and his stepfather Freeman Cowherd. He is survived by: his children, Daniel Gage Mathews (Courtney) and Cassie Page Mathews Oglesby (Ryan); his sisters, Alice Schmidt (Randy) and Amanda Cornwall; his grandsons, Milo Benton Oglesby and Luke James Mathews; his sister-in-law Sylvia Mathews Crockett; and his aunt Doris Murphy. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
