He is survived by: his sisters, Edna Louise Cole (Edward) and Linda Gail Dabbs (Darrel); his sons, Jesse Pirtle (Susan) of Knoxville and Anthony Pirtle of Sparta, Tennessee.; and his grandson Justin (Katie Pirtle).
